Sailing Stories...Did She Float?

Sailing stories about Magic Dragons run to the river. These are not your average boat ramp stories.

The pilothouse had to be lifted off the hull by a crane, before we moved it down the road. If we didn't every wire and traffic light would have been ripped off the poles. That was not the kind of sailing story we wanted.

As our plan started to unfold, pilothouse back in place, strapped down and secured, we continued to move backwards.

We were loosing day light as we backed up the trailer into the Intracoastal waterway again. Great News! The second high tide was higher than before. The motor home was backed up far as possible without it floating away. The tide kept rising, we watched as the boat began to float. She became free of the custom built (tailored suit) which was her trailer.

Pull her around, tie her up it was celebration time. Break the bottle across the hull, dedication time... Not so fast...

The trailer would not budge as we tried to pull it out of the water. Did someone say swimming?

New Smyrna Beach, Florida boat ramp will never be the same. You know like a fishing story..."I caught a fish this big." Sure you did?

The boat ramp concrete pad ended in the water, the constant loading and unloading boats on and off of trailers blew the sand away from the concrete pad. The trailers 10 tires (3 axles) fell off of the pad down into the sand. 1st attempt we tried the 10 ton jack to bring it up and over the concrete slab, but this was a 3 axle trailer that was able to carry 26,000.00 pounds.

Not so lite!

Time to try something new.... We never leave home and go on a job without our faithful come- along's. Our boats first job...Oh, the tears!

The boat was floating right on top of the trailer area. One side of each come-along attached to the boat, the other in the water on the trailer...Push, Pull...finally climbing the hill onto the land.

All of this because of the cruising together dream we hold onto.

Most of our family and friends came in from out of town, they didn't want to miss this adventure. We went back to the local New Smyrna Beach hotels that night tired, but relieved the boat was now floating.

This is not the end of our diy boat building story.
