Sailing Stories, Where Have All The Towing Companies Gone?

Sailing stories this one will go down in the record books as a keeper. We spent all this time welding the hull of this 65' sailboat together. The last thing we wanted to do was take on the responsibility of towing it down the road.

Phone call upon phone call, no shows, no call backs we could not find anyone that would commit to towing us down the road. We looked at cranes to lift us in...Fat Chance!

We were left with No choice, but to...

Pick a day that was going to be a luner high tide. A day and time that a lot of people were not on the road. Depth of the water where we were going to launch her during low and high tides.

Get enough lead in the keel to keep her upright once she is floating. But not to much so she is not that heavy while being towed.

I wonder who can tell me what is written on the side of our motor home?

Did someone say stress?

Sometimes when you need something done, "You just have to do it yourself."

There was just something about that day. As we pulled into the parking lot with our boat yet to be floating. Three rainbows filled the sky...a promise and a covering for our upcoming journey.

Backing up the motor home 37' with the 65' long sailboat lowering it ever so slowly to the waters edge. The boat dock ramp was steep and we didn't want the towing ball to snap off of the towing arm. We turned the motor home around the other way facing the boat.

Day light and high tide came and went...we sat and poured through the what ifs. Second high tide came as the sun was setting, it was time to make it work.

Sailing Stories don't come easy...we love sharing with you everything we have learned.
