Sailing Dream Magic Dragon, Updated Photos, October 2007
Sailing Dream Magic Dragon...I wanted to update you on our progress. These pictures are from the month of October, 2007.
We have come a long way...this is the down hill slide now.
Meaning most of the building (construction), of this sailboat is done.
This picture was taken with Art at the wheel. Guy and Denise are aboard as they pull out into the St. Johns river.
Webster's Dictionary:
Alloy Means: fusing two or metals, to melt together,
mix metals, as to form an alloy
Pure aluminum is not very strong, (just like gold is soft).
That is why aluminum is alloyed or mixed with other metals.
Marine grade aluminum is the only aluminum alloy that will stand up to corrosion in salt water. Hulls that are not made out of the Marine grade will be destroyed in a short period of time.
Art's son, Guy is at the wheel in the pilot house of Magic Dragon.
There is a 6000 series that is alloyed (mixed) with magnesium and silicon.
You can use this grade for masts (spars)...

Magic Dragon, we have used Aluminum Marine grade 5086.
What is amazing, no matter which way you adjust or cut the plate, it has the
same strength up or down.
Art's son, Jim is enjoying a day off from work.
