Sail Boat Masts Are Not Always New
Sail boat masts, Well here's a story that goes with this web site, I have to go back to New Smyrna Beach, 2001. I did a Google Search for masts. I was doing research for Arts arbitration case, I needed to find out how much money it would take to replace Mariners sailboat mast?

Story about Mariner Sailboat
My Google Search brought up searches for things I wasn't looking
for. Sailboat masts, were no where to be found. Boy, times have
changed. Back in the year 2001, I stumbled upon the name sailboat spars. Sailboat spars?
I had no idea at that time, a spar was also a mast. Well, times have changed and the search engines have become smarter.
This page is all about modifying the mast that was given to us. The man who previously owned this mast ran his sailboat into a bridge and it broke into 2 pieces.
One man, gave us this for Free, just like restoring or renovating your home. The same is possible when modifying a mast for your boat.
Just make sure it is the right size. I will be writing an article on "How-To" to figure this out, in January's 2008 issue, of, Ezine-Sailing-DIY-Projects.
My goal is to walk you through the process of rebuilding this mast for Magic Dragon. I'm going to add as many pictures as I can. The mast is made out of Aluminum 6061-T6.

Yes, by the look of this mast it has a emerald green coat.
Yes, this mast has been hanging out for a couple of years...just a couple!
One of the first things you do is gut it, just like the inside of a room. As we took all the guts out, wiring, plastic tubes glued to the inside of the mast.
One of the biggest things you have to decide on, is "How are you going to use your sailboat?" Day sailing -lighter mast compared to racing sailboat mast. Mariner the America's Cup sailboat had a 90' mast when he bought it.
Magic Dragon's sail boat mast will be 60' above the water line...
which means the over-all length of this mast is only 52' long.
I know, I know...your saying girl you have been typing on that key board way too long. You have a typo. Your hard drive is froozen...
Here, let's take a closer look...at our sail boat masts.
The picture below will show you how this is possible.
There is a pedestal...you know like a (heel) on a high heel shoe.
2 winches and the boom, will be located on the pedestal instead of on the mast itself. This will help us in the long run.
We are not saying these tips and changes we have made are better, than anyone elses. We just wanted to think outside the box. We all are different people, from different countries, different customs. So my point is we wanted to do some things that would make life easier.
Some of them were outside of the box thinking.
Key: If your going to build your own boat, give your self an
incentive to finish building it. Make changes that will inspire you on days...when you want to run, and ask yourself "What have I down?"
"Am I crazy". Some of you might think it's interesting what we are doing and others...not so much...and you will run away and never come back to our website. Those of you that are interested we will take you from start to finish.
Key: Most fixed bridges are 60' over navagational water.
