Jess Watson writing book

by Anne-Louise-Brown

AFTER being inspired by the tales of other adventurers, writing a book about her around-the-world sailing adventure would seem like a natural step for the Sunshine Coast’s intrepid young sailor Jessica Watson.

Though she is in the middle of the ocean, 2400 nautical miles from South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope on her solo circumnavigation, 16-year-old Jess is putting pen to paper.

She is getting ready to release the story of her epic journey in a book to be called Around the World which will be released in August.

According to Jess’s mum Julie, her daughter is not concerned she has not actually finished her trip.

“Jess has always said she’s going to finish, so agreeing to write the book didn’t worry her,” Julie said.

“At first, there was a ghostwriter proposed but now Jess will be writing the book herself.

“She wasn’t too sure to begin with. Jess loves to read books, not necessarily write them. Now, she is really excited about it though.”

Julie said Jess would write the book with the help of her blog entries, which she has been writing almost daily since she embarked on her journey.

The book will be published by Hachette Australia and will be available throughout Australia and New Zealand.
