Fans flock to hear Jessica

by Roxy McCarty-O'Kane

SMALL of stature but big of heart, Jessica Watson left many in awe at the Caloundra Library yesterday.

The sailing sweetheart gave a presentation about her epic journey around the world and answered questions from an exclusive audience of about 100.

Bookings for the event were quickly filled after Caloundra Angus and Robertson and the library secured a coveted spot on Jessica’s national book tour just one week ago.

Those lucky enough to get a place in the room had copies of the best-selling Jessica Watson – True Spirit: the Aussie girl who took on the world signed.

“It’s great to be back in front of a home crowd after being away for so long,” Jessica said.

“It has been amazing to see how much support I have for my book.

“I love to share my story with other people and meet other young girls, I always say to them to get out and achieve your goals whatever they may be.”

Among the eager listeners was Kelsey Jennings. The 11-year-old, like many, has been inspired by Jessica’s accomplishment of sailing solo around the world at the tender age of 16.

“I won’t be doing that, but I like her message of encouragement that she did it,” Kelsey said.
