Renee Kappele: IX Center Piston Power Show

Renee Kappele: IX Center Piston Power Show

It was cold, windy, rainy and I needed an attitude adjustment. Summer was extended for another day at the IX Center, Piston Power Show.

There was summer fun found with boats, hot rods, motorcycles, airplanes and the list goes on...

This was the second annual IX Center, Piston Power Show, and there was so many things to do, "I didn't have time to think about the weather outside."

Over one thousand piston powered machines kept me busy.

How about the B17 "Memphis Belle" also called the Flying Fortress spread her wings on the display floor? This World War 11 Bomber stood proud while children and adults climbed up walking through the pages from the past.

Children were wide eyed and having a blast playing around and inside the airplane. Memphis Belle was the nickname of a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress during the Second World War that inspired the making of two motion pictures: a 1944 documentary film, Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress, and a 1990 Hollywood feature film, Memphis Belle.

The aircraft was thought to be the first United States Army Air Forces heavy bomber to complete 25 combat missions with her crew intact.

Visitors found that there was something for everyone and pistons came in every shape and size...

In my life now so many things have been revolving around aluminum so it was a pleasant surprise to find Lincoln Electric Company there. They were the exclusive official welding partner of the IX Center Piston Power Show.

Drawing you in further into the show I found Piston Power Performance stage, so it allowed you to dream of sunny days with the "Remember When Band", there was music from the fifties, sixties, and Motown...

Renee Kappele: IX Center Piston Power Show and lots of eye candy here to see, just take a look at this beauty below.

Still not convinced, well Let's go on...

To my pleasant surprise there was construction equipment from years gone by.

"Historical Construction Equipment Association's were there, show casing how far our construction equipment has come.

Of course right in front of the full size machines, was the "gravel pit." It was fun watching the children using the construction toy's and the large heavy equipment as the back drop.

Below you will see the Bay City Model 37 Shovel, built in 1952, it was built for the US Marine Corp.

Picture above...Renee Kappele: IX Center Piston Power Show, Children playing in the gravel pit!

What else did they have for the kids? Well...there was matchbox car races, carting, interactive Larry Nance camp from the CAVS...

The American Soap Box Derby had a two hundred and fiftyfoot indoor rally track. With side by side racing with entries from around the country competing for trophies.Yep, Yep who knew the Soap Box Derby has one hundred fifty communities from around the world.
